You Are I am

Sept. 3, Where did the summer go? Maybe it's my fault that every spring that vow is made to have that "great" summer. You know,to handle all my chores and responsibilities such as mowing the lawn, going to work, cleaning the house etc, but still manage to lay in that hammock, read that novel and have dozens of small parties with my family and friends at a moment's notice!

That vision was in my mind this morning as, coming in from feeding the dog, my glance surveyed all that had to be done outside on our grounds. Knowing all that had to be done inside the house dampened any enthusiasm for gathering the necessities to tackle Mother Nature's grass and weeds! Instinctively my gait started toward my parlor where my rosary and today's scripture reading awaited.

"Nope, gotta look like I did something first." guided me toward the sink to finish the dishes. Honestly, who do you listen to? Right, God comes first. That's what everyone says, but time with Him should come after my chores. Well, sometimes couldn't He just outshout all the 'should do's' that drown Him out when it comes to the time my day can allot Him? Listening to the Christian channel while washing dishes, a lyric from a song by MercyMe grabbed my attention:"You're the One who calls out kings."  That phrase would not leave me. Who didn't love the heroes in the westerns who went to the middle of the street and called out the bad guy? Or the kid at school who called out the bully? But then again, who didn't cringe at the nerd who called out the bad guy and subsequently got beat up?

Trust, Trust, Trust.  Talk to Him. Let Him call out the bad guys in my life and take care of them? My personal experiences and strengths will never, never be enough to call out the darkness in my life. Not without Him. Just because He has no physical persona and those who thwart my spirituality don't immediately fall to the dusty street with a commanding thud, does not mean that He will not help me. Just put Him first Karen. Anyone who doesn't understand putting Him first will never understand if you continually put them first. Sort of fuels the concept that that we are more important?

The title of the song was "You Are I Am."  The song refers to we the mortals with terms as 'shake with fear, doubt, not enough, fall apart and start to question', and refers to God: "the One who conquers, calls out kings, shut the mouths of lions, walks through fire, and takes the orphans' hands". We need to remember who is who.

That "Great Summer" is a myth. To have that great summer on my terms would mean to please a lot of people in the hope that their pleasure would reassure me of my value. An endless summer always awaits in my parlor with my rosary in hand and my scripture lessons perched on my chair.

Sept. 3. Who cares where the summer went?
