Very interesting article. At the same site, look to the left on "religion", and go there. Take a look at the second article (right under the Perrysburg article). It's called "High school builds on parishes". There is a program called "Live It" . Interesting as well.
Hats off to Father Leyland for having the courage to speak out. I understand the vow of obedience that the clergy take, but what about being obedient to God and doing what's best for the parish rather than following everything the Bishop says.
Thank God for a priest that has the courage to stand up for what he believes and not to just follow the crowd!!! Many of the Saints were looked at as rebels, because they did not follow the crowd. They chose to follow God. Their focus was on God and not on all the politics that we see so often. Let us continue to pray for more people to follow Gods call and not to be afraid to stand up for what is right.
Agreed, dan.
My kids used to say a prayer daily in school that included a line that said: "Help me to stand for the hard right instead of the easy wrong."
It would have been easy for Fr. Leyland to just go with the flow, instead of bucking the Diocese, but
he obviously feels strongly about his parish and his parishioners, and doing the right thing.
When will common sense enter in? Why put a new church where it is not needed?
Is it so hard to say "perhaps we were wrong?" and " maybe there's a better way?"
"On matters of style, swim with the current; on matters of principle, stand like a rock." --Thomas Jefferson
I went to the "Celebrate Our Legacy" finale today, and I saw some people "stand like rocks". Nice show of unity! The people from "Upper" and "Kirby" are more united than people think!
